About Our Dances
HATDS sponsors contra dances on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of most months at the West University Community Center. We offer a newcomers' session around 7:15 pm; the regular dance begins at 7:30. The admission is $6 for members of HATDS, residents of West University, and first time attendees. It is $10 for the general public. We accept cash and checks only; please, no large bills. Kids under 18 are free and need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.
HATDS sponsors English Country dancing on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month at First Unitarian-Universalist Church. ECD starts at 7:15 pm and goes until 9:15 pm. Admission is $8.00 per person.
Contra dances always feature live music. English Country is done to recorded music except on special occasions.
We also sponsor a community band, called Contra Dan's, for anyone who plays an instrument and would like to occasionally play at a contra dance.
If you wish, sign up for our email reminders that are sent at the beginning of each month.
All dances are open to the public and are smoke- and alcohol-free. We also ask that you come fragrance-free. No partner is necessary (it's contra and English Country dance etiquette to dance with different partners) and all dances are taught.
Join us at a dance! We think that you will find us to be a friendly and welcoming group and contra and English Country dance to be great fun and exercise.
